I took a walk
inside my head today
The trees I passed were expectant
as if waiting for something I didn't know about
I recall a passing car, filled with piles of flesh
Literally, not people
The warm sun felt bitter,
as if a taste can be felt on the skin without a tongue
It was a strange marriage between Heaven and Hell
as the visible birds churned up the sky like soapy water
The mood was overcast
like when you discover your spouse isn't human
I swam through the currents of nevermore
and ate from the table of reckonings
The metaphors piled as high as the sky
Each was a marker for me to find my way back
Back to the darkness of my basement room
Where dust motes fall unseen
and the tides of time have not touched my shores
